Iranian comic artist Marjane Satrapi is delightful. You are free to see for yourself in this video from the Sundance Channel discussing how she found her medium. I have always admired her work and now I am want to fly to Paris to try to be her friend and hang out in her studio all day.
A plane ticket to France isn’t in the budget for me, but thankfully we do have her graphic novels and  Persepolis on DVD available in the library.
